I was thinking.....we should make a Facebook page of Opticraft.....   So how about it..... ;)

I don't know.
If the main reason is the advertisement, I don't believe that will attract more players. Although, it can happen only if the Admins, connect it with the main page of MINECRAFT. So, many people who play that game will be attracted for a good classic server.
Moreover, the good "advertisement" is the same the system. If it is on the top of servers' list, it will be full.

A question: Did the server do restart before the weekend? I am asking because the traffic was lower than the previous weekends.

Not sure :P but you are wright with the server getting packed very quickley that might mean more grieff probably...

Optical has already said that if there was a Facebook/Twitter page, he or one the admins would run it, and it is unlikely to happen anyway.

I don't think there is any point anyway. I agree with spamarian, it wont really advertise the server and we have mumble/IRC/forum/in-game for chats discussions or news so there really isn't any use. And spam I believe that the server resets itself every now and again anyway.
