I used /home and it lagged out, and world hole dropped me into void.

You don't die if you drop in a world hole... since its not actually real.

this only happens if ur home is near bedrock.... i /home Shadowsin , whos home i helped dig out at bedrock lv... then suddenly i dropped and died.  fyi peeps it isn't a instant kill, it minus 4 hearts per secs, if u r fast enough u can type /spawn....so ur home may be very deep?....
   FYIs dont say i go into breaking into ppl's home, shadowsin and i made that hole to farm slimes so i was checking if any slimes have spawned. He said i could come in even if hes not online...
  hope the highlighted section helped. just make ur /home near the surface xD
