Im pretty sure notch has ditched minecraft classic and released the source code for it, hence WoM client and the ability to change your server with add-ons.

According to the wiki:
It is no longer updated and only kept for historical purposes. According to Notch, he plans on "...slowly phasing it out. I won't remove it, though. Just hide it."

Its coming in the next update. By the sounds of it, it will be a mode for beta in which you have infinite blocks + instant destruction of blocks.

Only notch knows that
