Well the gunshots were the quickest way to kill him when they saw him, since they were on helicopters, they couldn't get down to slit his throat since it would make a battle in the place where he lived.

I'm also skeptic about the fact that they killed him around these days, but I'm sure he's dead by now.

The seals shot bin laden multiple times after he refused to go peacefully and ran toward a wall which had multiple weapons on it.
