Bukkit updates from 1.7.5 to 1.7.9 have been to prepare servers for the new UUID change (Minecraft username changing)
Nothing has changed visible in-game, but a lot of code has gone into supporting UUID.
Confused? More info on the switch to UUID here.

Changing your Minecraft username will affect any Minecraft related thing. So yes, your whole account.
