I used notch software before but know i am currently running the bukkit software. Im still learning how to edit the server. Other than that hope this answers you questions  :)

You should get some plugins for it. Theres some pretty cool ones out there.

He's trying to get some plugins working, I got plugins working on my server (Just made one) but I need more ram to let other people join o.O

That means dejong doesn't have the server on at the time that you tried connecting.
