If you think about it..chat shouldn't be quiet. Recently it has been a lot of the time dead. I mean, it is a server for crying out loud, we should get messages just like when we can vote. We could use a bit more chat time to welcome someone to the server.

When I first joined I never spoke out. It took me almost 8 months to find my voice. The only people that welcomed me were my friends. I've been on small SMP servers that do have this "Welcome" message. Anytime the people see it literally everyone in chat goes "Welcome to ____" I feel this makes the person feel as if they joined a community and joining a community makes it harder to leave.

8 Months WOW that's a long time, but like she said, once that welcome message pops up, everyone invites them and they just feel more comfortable around newer people.
