I have used TurboIRC and think its pretty good. Haven't really used any other apps to compare though.

you might as well use minechat and type /spawn
its leagues better than irc, + you can use commands

IRC999 is a pretty good one, simple and quick to start.

I just go on safari and type in www.rizon.net/chat and there you go.  But like gavin said, MineChat is probably the best thing you got.
