New ranks and priveleges

I do not see myself ever wanting to be a staff member on SMP and have been trusted on the server for ten months. There are others (mostly from classic) that are both trusted on SMP and been a member for over a year.

I've been here well over a year, and on the SMP server before it even officially opened (There was this pvp map that Relkeb, Spartan and I (And some others, I think, this was more than a year ago) blew/lava-ed up)
I doubt many people see me gaining staff rank... It would be nice to have this veteran rank (I can think of a few others who qualify aswell).

And chief, trusted users were never allowed to have lava. A few times there was a glitch to where they could use it, but never intentionally.

It depends on how you view it, but without doubt, that is how people will view it.

Lets look at trusted rank, because it is a rank. That is how players see it. Trusted players can place water, and in most, if not all, cases they are players who spent a while on the server before being granted the trusted rank for being trusted by the staff members. Giving them the fancy orange name, and the ability to place water basically makes the members envy the rank, but you all implemented it anyways... Then you tell players never ask for trusted. Then of course you have players who want trusted because they envy the rank, but I don't see many whom do that. Most of the time members and trusted ranked players just act the same. Meanwhile there's the guests which for some reason don't register to quickly become members...

In other words, Veteran rank wouldnt be different from the trusted rank. And on a side note, why not give us lava? We have water, and rarely would a trusted grief... What harm could it do.
