Tiggy's Super Secret Awesome Slot Machine
tiggy26668:
Since a few people are curious about it, a few think it's rigged, and others just love it, i thought i'd make a post with some details on it. :D
How it Works:
The Slot Machine is based on a 5 digit binary random number generator that produces values from 00000 to 11111, or for those that don't speak binary, 0-31, giving us a total of 32 possible outcomes.
With my version getting 00000, or no lights turned on, gives you a free spin, this effectively removes one possible outcome as it's essentially not spinning, which leaves us 31 possible permutations (outcomes)
i allow bets from $100-$500 rewarding prizes for 3, 4 and 5 lights in a row yielding 1x/2x/3x payout respectively. This can pay the player $100-$1500 for a winning spin given what they bet, yielding a profit of $0(money returned)-$1000
The theoretical statistics are as follows(0 = light off, 1 = light on):
1x: there's 3 possible ways out of 31 to get 3 lights in a row, 11100, 01110, 00111 hence 3 in 31 chance to win your money back
2x: there's 2 possible ways out of 31 to get 4 lights in a row 11110, 01111 hence 2 in 31 chance to win twice your bet
3x: there's 1 possible way out of 31 to get 5 lights in a row 11111 hence 1 in 31 chance to win three times your bet.
Link to a tutorial on building the random number generator (i simply expanded the concept to 5 outputs instead of 3, and linked them into redstone lamps):

Side Note:
if anyone would like to steal the idea feel free, it's quite profitable while still being a lot more fair than most of the current other slot machines on the server. Not to mention flashing lights is more addictive than watching wool pop out of a dispenser :P

*edit* i did a /binary fail, 11111 = 31 not 63 so there's only 32 possible outcomes, however this actually improves the odds of the player winning so no harm no foul. updated the post to reflect this with the exception of the screenshot im too lazy to upload again :P

If it's a secret, why are you blurting it out to the public? Kinda defeats the purpose of 'secrecy...' :P
