Ban Appeal (/home death trap) Banned by: Mr_Mr_Mr

I received a permanent banishment from the server today for making my "/home into a death trap."  I had just recently discovered that players could travel to any other player's home (/home) by simple means of the /home command.

With my little experience in minecraft servers I immediately questioned this ability. It seems to me that this ability, to instantly teleport to another players home, could result in easy, undetectable griefing/thieving.  It's an option that should perhaps be opted into and not something that's default.

A lot of the fun in minecraft for me is the idea that building a home in the wild has the potential to be stolen from, so I like to hide my house to the best of my ability.  I play with the threat that a player could stumble onto my home and steal my goods/loot.  It makes the game more of a roleplay, and I find this aspect to be one of the best.

This leads me to my explanation of the "deathtrap."  I wanted to see if something so easily abused would be put into the server (I was in disbelief that it would work).  To justify my actions (somewhat), this function directly goes against the fun I get from the game because people are easily able to find my (not so secret) home, SO in order to stop players from randomly teleporting to homes there must be a check to balance that feature.  By creating that death trap of a /home I could argue that I was reducing players likelihood of teleporting to players homes that they do not know (which adds a unique aspect to that feature and overall gameplay).

With all that said, I'd really like to see my permanent banishment reduced to a less than permanent one.  I will no longer abuse that feature in the game.  I would like to have an option to not partake in that feature, however.

Thank you,

You were banned by Mr_Mr_Mr wait for him to respond.

This is a really bad excuse for making a deathtrap. All you have to do is put your home in a room with a door and they cannot get out. And you can claim that it is "easily abused" but you were the one banned for it, along with every single other person who has tried to abuse this system. If you dont want anyone near your home, why would you join a somewhat heavy populated server? That being said.

We have no plans in the future of making you be able to opt out of /home.

I was not arguing that because it's a feature that is easily abused I shouldn't be banished; I was stating that I was in disbelief that something so easily abused was in the game. Like I said, moments before my banishment I had learned of the feature.

To further explain this, I think that the risk of building a home that has the potential to be griefed/theived is fun.  I enjoy hiding my tracks and staying on the "down-low."  This aspect loses it's fun when people can transfer to your house via non-consensual teleportation.

Also, my post was more of an explanation of my actions and less of an excuse for my actions.

Thanks,

I'll get to this tomorrow, I'm really tired and need to go to bed.
I'll give you this much tonight, and I'll explain more about your ban tomorrow.

This is where your home was set, it was a lethal fall.

Yes, I agree; I have never disputed this fact.  Please refer to my previous posts.

I'm not exactly appealing my banishment.  I'm more so explaining why I did what I did to express my opinion that an infinite banishment is too severe, perhaps.

The first step to not be banned on a server, is to read the rules. Rule 9 states "that Killing players on purpose will result in a ban." This is one of the more serious rules we have as we're not a pvp server. You also did not abide by the 10th rule which states "Use common sense before you act. If part of you thinks what you are doing is wrong then don’t do it." I don't care if you were testing if it would work, it's common sense not to do anything to kill players.

Like nick said, this is a bad excuse for making a death trap, now give me a good reason and I might shorten the ban.

I've already explained my actions.  Refer to my other posts.

Once again, I didn't give excuses, but explanations.

Also, the common sense rule is very vague.  Just a thought.

Well your explanations aren't getting you out of the hole.
The common sense rule takes common sense to understand. Example: Is glitching through locked doors supposed to be a part of the game? No, so that lands under the common sense rule.
The common sense rule is basically telling you to play the game it was supposed to be played, don't bend things by duplicating, glitching through doors, ect. It also goes for chat, don't post pornographic or illegal content in chat.

I was pointing to the fact that the common sense rule is arbitrary, i.e. "because I said so."

A tip for future appeals, use examples that are pertinent to the situation.  Don't bring up duplicating when it's not relevant.

Another tip, work on your reading comprehension.

He wasn't glitching at all. You're allowed to make a hole in minecraft. That's how it was made to be played.

So you're categorizing digging a hole with glitching and cheating? That's mental.

@stuffandjunk: Do NOT reply to appeals that you are not involved in. Do I have to make This Thread any more clear?

They are examples of how the rule is a set of norms.

I'm dyslexic. Find out more about a person before you go making them feel like dirt.

Locked, you're not being un banned.
