Thinking about making a PvP post? Read this.

Yeah PvP makes a server fun and people want to go there, NOT. Opticraft is one of the few servers that does not include PvP and I feel a lot more people would dislike playing on opticraft if all of a sudden the switch was flipped turning this into a PvP server. What is the point of killing each other anyway, in a creative game.

i don't think you quite understand the direction we're going to go. it's not like we're going to flip a switch and the whole world becomes PvP enabled.. that would be stupid.

so far the idea is as follows:

pvp will be happening in a completely separate world. users on the server can enter a command to join a queue for a PvP match which may involve something like CTF, siege the base, or something else team oriented and objective based. once enough people join the queue for PvP, it will teleport all users to the new world and replace their inventory with some pvp stuff.

when the match is over, their inventory is restored and they're teleported back wherever.

the point here, as you question in your post, is to provide a competitive and fun outlet to break the norm of survival. note opticraft SMP is not a creative server as you said in your post. survival loses its fun after a few days of the same old thing - we'd like some unique attractions to keep people on the server, even if they're only staying because we have a good implementation of PvP.

--

once again, these are just ideas and no guaranteed can be made. perhaps there's some unknown technical limitation that we'll come across - but probably not. we're practically wizards.

I meant since the amount of mobs is low the time for people to be creative is higher. Have you seen some of the things people have made on here? Not trying to be rude but, I barely ever see things that detailed or anything more than survival based on other survival servers. I feel on opticraft the people I know aren't on to have a survival adventure, there are here to create something cool for others, but make the things out of supplies they gathered by surviving.

But hearing that, I am happier than the entire server being switched over.

I played one before. Camping the safety line, robbing all my starter materials and not being to do anything is annoying as hell. Try making an arena. I don't really support the PVP ideas, but it satisfies the rest I guess. Also, try and implement a inventory/XP restore plugin for that area.

Ahh, that makes sense...  So kinda like how WoW and other MMO's have battlegrounds.  The PVP won't affect the actual world, because it takes place in it's own little virtual world.

That would be good enough to satisfy the PVP beggers, but I'd still tell them "Sucks to be you" when they complain about loosing items when they're killed.  I have absolutely no sympathy for anyone who dies in a PVP area, regardless of how they were killed.
