Even though they are pillars, they are indeed blocks that another player placed. Breaking these blocks can easilly be considered griefing and will be accounted for. I totally agree with your statement though, it does make the world and surrounding structures look ugly...
I guess we should wait for a mod/admin to weigh in.

I will be the first to admit it happened to me as well, with some very valuable equipment. It's always good to put your important items in a chest at your home before you go exploring. Also, if your trusted, bring a bucket of water; it serves as a good transportation method to get to the bottom of holes that you wish to explore. Can't really do anything about not noticing some and falling in, though.

You should join us soon, mate. You don't necessarilly have to have a microphone, you can type and still remain engaged in our conversations. It's a great way to get to know the staff members of the server and to get hands on assistance from other players as well.
