You've all been waiting for it, and its finally here!
Thanks to the help of recent donations, Optical has created a survival multi-player server. After some setup we've decided its time to open the server to a fair number of the public for testing. This means that the server is not by any means permanent, and we can not guarantee your creations will last. So don't put all your hard work into it... just yet (also the map will most likely be wiped after the beta 1.8 release in a few days).
This server is meant as a survival server, and not a creative server. PVP is disabled, but enemy mobs are still a threat. The classic server will remain up as the creative server. For the time being, titles purchased for opticraft classic are NOT available on the smp server.
The server is outfitted with basic ranks: default, operator, admin, owner. All players will start out as default... including operators on the classic server! Do not ask for a promotion, you won't get it! There aren't any applications either. Ops will be re-selected by admins if they are needed.
Being that there may be some players who are ops on the SMP server but not on Classic, or vice versa, we have created a few new forum ranks:
SMP-Operator: can view smp operator forum
Classic-Operator: can view classic operator forum
Global-Operator: can view both classic and smp operator forums
SERVER IP: beta.opticraft.net

Not blocks, but u can set passwords for doors, furnaces, chests and such.

A software made by optical or just vanilla with bukkit or something ?

Nope, anyone can join as long as you bought the orginal beta.

I have bought beta since the beginning lol.
But it might be that minecraft.net is having some problems.
When starting it often tells me it failed to connect to minecraft.net
But then i should still not get "Failed to login: User not premium"

You might wanna check out mcserver or mineserver both writen in c++
just mcserver isnt open source.
Also any clue why i cant login to the beta ?
I do own the game played on beta servers lots of times..

Not sure, may be a minecraft.net bug.
Yeah i checked out mineserver and Bravo awhile back, but they still have a fair bit of catching up to do with functionality =[

I'm having a problem getting on the server.
I try to get on, and it shows me "Downloading Terrain", so I wait.
After a few minutes or so it shows me "Connection Lost
Timed out"
I tried a few times, but it shows me the same thing.
Anyone help?

this is the first multi server beta that dosen't laggs for me and i never dc from it ... THIS IS THE BEST SERVER I LOVE IT thanks opticalza for creating such a brilliant server :DD

If you are getting "User not premium" that seems like you dont have beta activated for your account. Maybe contact their support?

Nah it seems my client files where corrupted or something..
I scanned the protocol and it would always send Player aka not activated..
Deleted the .minecraft folder and it fixt it.
Just force update didnt work.

I have not experienced any lag on this server so far but maybe they are having problems today.

Suggestion: Ranked worlds (like ranked maps on classic server)
Have a public map for Guest & Member, a Recruit+ world, and a Builder+ world.

Ranks dont carry over to beta. There is no recruit or builder rank. Since it is a survival server we only need 1 world.
By the way there is a suggestions board if you have more suggestions.

Check your fire wall. Im havent experienced any lag yet.

No firewall just router.
Port doesnt need to be forwarded as outward connections arent limited.
Also it isnt all the time just sometimes.
The lag just comes and go's and then everybody has it so its not me.
and with bad i really do mean bad.
Unable to chat break blocks or walk.

Like i said i have not experienced and lag near that bad, i have had a block re appear on me once or twice but not often. So everyone doesn't have it.

Ah yes, This is because the host im running the beta server on is really cheap, they seem to experience periods of massive packet loss i noticed.
Haven't had it happen to me in awhile, but that is most likely what happened. Don't worry, this is not the permanent host for beta. Its just a temporary cheap one while we flesh out the servers concept/plugins and so forth. Don't feel its worth sinking $180USD~ into a dedicated server just yet. Will do it once were out of testing phase for sure.
I really dislike lag/downtime and so forth, so if it continues to be a real deal breaker on the test server, i will get the dedicated server sooner.
How often was this occuring earlier and for how long?
Let me know if it persists as well.

Probably also explain the sudden disconnects i sometimes get.
something with reading datastream failure.
Could also be a problem on the client though.

Yeah quite possibly.
The host im using atm is ridiculously priced.
4GB ram VPS + 4GB Burstable ram for $15 a month (Dual core cpu, 150gb hdd, 4TB BW)
So yeah, im not expecting the greatest performance from it. However if the packetloss gets worse i will move to a proper server.

Hm. I've only experienced an extreme lagg once, and everyone else experienced it too. Lagg lasted 20secs I think.
Other than tht th game is fun!

I experiance lag often. I have been disconnected 10 times +
And lost health from mined blocks appearing back after I have mined them, suffocating me.
Lastly, it makes it hard to chat, imagine being on a telephone where everything you say appears 10 seconds after, and everything you hear was said 10 seconds ago. Its not easy.

I have seen so many data stream d/ces on other beta servers aswell. Probably just the packet loss.

hmm i only have lagg while using windows xp, the day i asked opticalza to close my door, other than that windows 7 and vista works fine, try not to open classic at the same time though...

chat is fine but sometimes while moving i teleport
and also i cant destroy blocks :S

When 1.8 comes out, will we have BETA CREATIVE MODE worlds?
If we have redstone, I'll probably spend my time designing those ridiculously insane contraptions that use up all the server CPU :D

I like classic better when building than beta because I lag less on classic.

I personally find a rather large amount of lag on the Beta Server, I have quite a good connection and my ping isn't THAT high, I keep on glitching back and forth, I walk forward 5 steps and I'm back where I begun. repeat.

Abandoned Mine Shafts.
Naturally found Cobweb.
Totally new, fractal-based biome code.
7 new biomes.
New "Mushroom biome". which will include Huge Mushrooms, both brown and red.
Rivers flowing through/in between biomes.
Ocean Biomes, that are deeper and larger than before.
Mountain biomes.
Swamp biome.
Possibly new rainforest biomes.
Possible Volcanoes.
Larger Biomes.
New combat Mechanics.
Hold-to-charge bows.
3 different charged states; takes less than 1 second to fully charge.
Fully charged bows causes the player to walk slower.
Critical hits.
When the player hits a mob while jumping.
When the bow is fully charged.
Player blocking attack animation and hostile mob attack animations, possibly more player animations.
Block "stance".
New farming options, more interesting farming.
The Cocoa Bean tree Jeb was talking about could be implemented.
Plantable pumpkins and melons, each with a central stem that grows to max size and spawns a fruit next to it.
Melon Seeds.
Pumpkin Seeds.
Animal breeding.
New Food System.
There is now a food meter.
Food no longer heals directly but indirectly.
If the food meter is above a certain point, heals about every 5 seconds.
Food will be stackable
Food takes 1.6 seconds to consume.
There is now a food eating animation.
5 new food items
Cooked Chicken.
Raw Chicken
Has a chance to "give you a disease"
Raw Beef.
Steak.
Melon Slices.
Cooked Porkchops have a different texture.
New achievements.
Kill a skeleton with an arrow at 50 meters.
Possibly attempting Shoot the Moon with an arrow.
Sprinting: By double pressing the forward button, the player will move faster.
Sprinting will be limitless, but will deplete your food bar.
Hitting a mob while sprinting sends them flying about 8 blocks.
Jumping while sprinting boosts the jump to a length of 4 blocks.
Sprinting makes particles come up from the ground.
Glass Panes.
Can be mined and picked up without breaking.
Possibly Spike blocks, Jeb initially considered Spike Pistons, but then pondered making a Spike block that can be pushed by the Sticky Piston.
Arrows will get stuck on mobs when they hit.
Vine blocks.
They will not be climbable.
Player can walk through them.
Improved chest model with a 3D lock and an open state/animation.
The ability to convert Creative worlds to Survival worlds ingame.

Lag doesn't happen to me as often as you guys but you have to remember that optical is using a cheap host until he gets everything situated.

Yeah - this host is temporary. Not going to sink $200 into a solid server until we're ready to bring onboard the people.

The server is on 1.8 at the moment. It should be upgraded to 1.0.0 by next week, hopefully

but whats the point when there's only a limited number of people, the server will be empty and you might as well

I don't know why but I was finding it hard to find a 1.8 download.. maybe it was just me, but I couldn't actually find one. But no point downgrading as of now... seeing as the 1.0 should will hopefully be up in the next couple of weeks. If Optic isn't too busy.
