Server ip: smp.opticraft.net
We have implemented a lottery system on the SMP server.
Lottery is drawn every 12 hours, and the prize pool starts at $1000. Each ticket bought increases the pool, and each ticket costs $100.
You can see time remaining to the draw using /lottery info, as well as the current prize pool and how many tickets you have in it.
To purchase tickets you can use /lottery buy <num> where num is how many tickets you would like.
When the lottery is drawn, 3 people will win.
1st = 50% of pot
2nd = 30% of pot
3rd = 20% of pot.

Nope, it is delivered when you are offline, and you will receive a message on login.
Also going to add command to see previous winners :)

Yeah I'd personally love to not see it, i quickly spent 110k on it. lol is there any way i can opt out of seeing it? Is it in its own channel i can turn off?

Well no, because if the high-money people start LOOSING the lottery to the low-money people then the server cash flow will eventually begin to shift. Those low-money people will go spend their winnings, since they aren't used to having a lot of money, which will drop the total cash owned by players, thus lowering the amount that gets contributed to the lottery.

Yeah... my remark was a bit cynical. But seriously, with the exception of the ethically questionable automatic farms, there's no better way to make money than by making or mining something of value and selling it.
A lottery is just luck... but it will still be fun to play! :)

We haven't made any decisions on lottery caps or anything of the sort.
We'll wait and see how it plays out - I suspect the first lottery will have had a much larger prize pool then the subsequent ones, since it is a new feature and all.
Personally, I am happy with how it played out, but we will discuss it and see if there are any reasons to make adjustments, and we'll update you on it.

I think it was fair though. 500 something K, winner got around 250k, and so on... I think it's fine. We'll just have to see like you said how it turns out in the future.

Just to clarify since that message is misleading.
It is correct and possible to win all three prizes in the lotto.

Random is random. Yes buying more tickets increases your chances at winning but that's how a lottery works. I can understand preventing the same person from winning more than once a drawing, but it's not like you need to play the lottery to get anywhere on the server. All in all, I'm completely fine with the lottery the way it is if people have fun with it the system then it's working.
^^ Just me 2 cents, so I don't expect anyone to agree. ;)

No. Each player has exactly the same odds per ticket and pays the same price per ticket. It is never a good investment to buy in the lottery - from a statistical standpoint the expected outcome is less than $100. Many of the repeat winners have actually lost money in the lottery, despite purchasing a huge number of tickets. In order for Mshour to have made any money in that lottery - his needed to win first and second to recoup his costs, and only actually made $19,000 dollars, despite receiving a payment of $119,000.
Basically - no, it makes no sense to bar people from winning more than once in a draw.
If anyone feels differently - feel free to pipe up. But please back your claims up with statistical evidence. I may have made a mistake, so do correct me if I am wrong.

haha, i think i speak for most opticrafters when i say that this lottery idea is addicting. People blow crap loads of money for tickets, without being gauranteed anything. I was addicted and i hope i can win soon! 8)

A few months ago i had an idea like this, but with diamonds. The people that trusted me didnt play and vice versa. Good idea. And i do only get 1 ticket dont call me a noob. This is cause i only have a few thousand dollars, so i cant spend so much.
