You know can just change your old username without making a new forum account, right?

My other account was given to me by a friend, but he wanted it back so I had to buy a new account :)

Yes but he means you can still use your old forum account and just change the name on that one.

Like I am doing.  Just go to forum profile info, enter "change your username" and then enter your password

Thanks for that, i see what he meant, and the changes have been made . Because i had already made the other JoeTheBro forum account, it wouldn't let me change my name to JoeTheBro, even though i changed the name of my first JoeTheBro forum account to something different. I think this is because my Minecraft username is JoeTheBro on that account and you can't change that. Conclusion: put a . on the end.
