Title: A note on 1.8
Post by: optical on September 05, 2011, 08:22:50 pm
Looks like Mojang intend to release 1.8 this week (source (http://www.facebook.com/minecraft/posts/245993215436175)) - Even if this isn't a serious post, the rest of this article still applies.

When 1.8 comes out, we will work as quickly as possible to update to it, however due to the massive amount of features added to 1.8 it is likely that this update may take a week or so to become fully functional. I say this because past updates such as 1.6 and 1.7 have been very buggy when they came out - basically unplayable. So if you intend to play SMP during that time, do not update!.

Secondly, because of the massive amount of changes in 1.8, it is very likely that there will be a map reset. This is because the terrain generator appears to have been heavily modified, with the additions of things such as rivers, oceans, better biomes, and so forth, which means it is likely that in order for these new features to come into affect, we will have to reset the map.

Feel free to post any questions or suggestions below.

As usual:

SMP IP: beta.opticraft.net

Cheers,
Optical.

okay i wont
I heard that the new version will have a creative mod and so other cheats like flying and running fast,so i was thinkin if u make another creative(beta)server when its updated. it would be fun.
and can we use the fly and the sprinting mod?

We'll stick with survival for now, until we have that fully functioning and popular, before expanding into a creative or pvp beta server

The classic server pretty much serves as our creative server.

If we do reset i'll most likely release the current world for download, so people can continue on in singleplayer - if it is possible.

Will everything stay in the chests if you do that? Because I know what the first thing I will do it... :P *Cough Raid Morten and Tobs74 and Asrqqx cough*

You could always download MCedit then save all your builds as schematics and paste them onto a new world if the biome doesent support old worlds.

Can't wait for 1.8. I will most likely update after the first bug patch or 2.

Maybe I'll do some group spelunking next time im on the server, instead of building up my house, now that I know its going to get a reset for sure.

We have world edit and it does the same thing but there really aren't any builds on the server right now that would be worth saving.

Would I be allowed to have the world save now?

The map should only be given away if we stop using it. if not, people may cartograph the map, and find where every diamond/gold ore is.

I will applaud the person who manages to do that.

Thats for Alpha?

To be honest, I wanted the map to find where slimes spawn :/
Just because after 3 hours constantly at level 6 without finding any, I get pretty fed up. I didn't even find diamonds down there :'(
U want to make sticky piston? And morten plz schem the world cause many new ppl who play beta would quit if the world was resetted(judging by the Amt of ppl online more ppl is needed) and alot of us had fun building together.(except samfra)
