Forum idea - Locking our own threads
« on: August 08, 2012, 03:13:41 am »
ok so here is an idea.

Allow the op of a thread to lock the thread. I think a lot of forums have a feature to allow users to lock their own topic, but idk. It would be a nice feature, and I don't see any harm in it.

This would seem ok, but I've thought of one problem.

If a topic was locked by a staff member for any reason the owner of the topic could unlock it if they wanted to carry it on.

Eg. Ban appeal- decision made to keep player banned so topic locked, they unlock it to carry on arguing.
Forum game gets out of hand and offensive/too much arguing so topic is locked. Owner unlocks to keep the argument.

This could be sorted by a Topic locked by a higher rank cannot be unlocked but im not sure of that would be possible :P

Anyway I think this could happen :D

I strongly support this but I don't think people would unlock it again to continue arguing because they are supposed to listen to the staff if they don't want to get banned.

Unfortunately there will be those few players that will unlock their own threads to continue arguing and throwing bombshells at us. That is their own fault for doing so, but it is fine how it is set up as is. We would rather keep a friendly environment instead of people unlocking locked threads to carry on a resolved discussion.

Well no, you simply make it so users can lock their own threads, but not unlock them. So if I locked this thread then that would be it. I cannot unlock it. A mod+ could unlock it, but that would be the extent of it.

How about if we could...

1. Ban them if they unlock their ban appeal, etc

2. Disable locking your own ban appeal. Anything on that ban appeal board cannot be locked unless a mod+ does it.

Well honestly there's no reason to ban people that unlock their own thread. Just make it so users can lock their own thread, and not unlock anything. Meanwhile mods+ are unaffected.

Its an alright idea, but I think its more of a moderators job on the forum.
coming from other forum based games I've played other than MC.

I see no need for this, there is no difference between staff locking it and you locking it. I'm just glad this topic wasn't titled "Trusted players being able to lock topics"

That was a sarcastic joke making fun of the fact that some of you Trusted guys are just power hungry and want a lot of special permissions for yourselves. Locking topics? C'mon, that is trivial and unnecessary. Locking topics is not a fun thing to do, its a button click. Trusted rank will not be edited for things such as enderpearls and topic locking. I believe this topic  is over.

Topic Locked.

P.S. Locking this was SUPER FUN  ;D

Indeed. We don't lock topics just for fun-- we have a reason behind locking threads. It prevents unnecessary edits to be made and/or it keeps resolved discussions from being unnecessarily carried on further or necro'd.

I believe this topic is over.
